Inspiration

“My starting point for the intervention and painting of the dress was a recent visit to Gaudí’s La Pedrera in January 2024, where I was absolutely captivated by the building, but especially by its two portals, which have been my inspiration. The natural and fresh atmosphere they create is just marvelous. It’s as if you were entering a kind of magical garden or cave, surrounded by all those colors on the walls and ceiling, and the door resembling the wings of a butterfly. I could still remember that feeling while painting the dress.

Normally, in my work I don’t begin with images or sketches, but rather from sensations, memories or a kind of poetic atmosphere that I try to recreate visually. I always work starting from scratch, improvising and experimenting in a very impulsive process that includes breaks and periods of inactivity and observation of what I am painting, continuing with the construction and destruction of what I have painted, which is extended over time until I finally decide that it is finished and then I stop.

BIO

Jorge Nava, born in Gijón in 1980, is an abstract painter with an extensive artistic career. He has a degree in Fine Arts from the University of the Basque Country and has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions since 2004, both in Spain and abroad.

His work is characterized by the exploration of form, color and gesture, seeking to connect painting with music, poetry and nature. Influenced by American abstract expressionism, his work focuses on experimentation and on reducing pictorial language to organic forms and contrasting colors on white backgrounds.

He has exhibited at major art fairs and his work can be found in prestigious collections such as the Talents Foundation and the Museum of Fine Arts in Havana, as well as in private collections in several countries.

In the words of art critic Oscar Manrique, “in a world saturated with images, Nava’s work invites us to pause and reflect, offering art that is authentic and charged with meaning”.
