EXTREMADURA
Title : “Another façade”.
Technique: acrylic on canvas and glazed stoneware.

Inspiration

“I have been inspired by how people have historically covered facades and walls to make places more livable. In this case I use the dress as another facade; a suit is what we use to cover our most private property: the body. I have intervened the piece with a traditional technique, in which I have drawn a version of a very common motif in our country, modifying it to generate a new pattern captured in the cobalt color typical of ceramics”

BIO

Paula Valdeón Lemus was born in Villafranca de los Barros, Badajoz, in 1992. She studied Fine Arts in Salamanca and a Masters Degree in Art Research in Madrid, where she currently lives and works.

Her work derives from her interest in how we manage decoration in our homes and in architecture. The urban material culture serves as a stimulus to create a work that crosses the memory and aesthetics of everyday life. In her paintings and ceramics Paula transforms the decorative and artistic patterns she finds in the street into more intimate and intrinsic ones, not so obvious to the naked eye. Disregarding the origin of the patterns, she uses them as new material, with which she plays until the image becomes organic again, and she then uses her own hands as brushes, and clay and oil to generate questions. From a particular aesthetic, her work reflects on the fiction of nature in ornament and how we assimilate it.
