Inspiration

“This creation arises from the reflection on the heavens, evoking the sensation of wrapping ourselves with a celestial mantle.

The central idea is flight, representing the exploration and freedom to which the forms invite us, urging us to escape or to build spaces for our dreams”.

BIO

Born in Piedrabuena, Ciudad Real, in 1956, Pedro is an artist whose work focuses on the creation of personal universes detached from contemporary fashions and trends. His childhood in a family of farmers and hunters, and his travels around the world with important scholarships such as the J. William Fullbright, in New York, and the Cité International des Arts, in Paris, inform his work.

He explores man’s relationship with other living beings and the universe, showing the struggle for survival, tenderness and destruction. He resorts to metaphysics to go beyond the obvious, painting animals that adopt human forms, fish that fly and beings in search of their own destiny.

Castrortega paints the imaginary to trigger doubt and reflection, combining the hostile with the tender in a place where poetry and heartbreak coexist. He has exhibited in international galleries and his work is held in numerous public and private collections around the world. He has participated in international art fairs such as ARCO, Art Basel and Estampa.
